April 2008
Happy Spring, Members!
The Spring Dance was great, despite the fact that it was not sold out. The “Sorentos” played beautiful dance music and the floor was packed most of the time.
The General Meeting was very poorly attended. Only 81 of over 300 members were present. As a result, several key positions remain vacant. It is vital to the future of our club that our members take a greater interest in what happens at these meetings. Please look at the Executive Members List below and consider calling Arno Risse to fill one of the vacancies. One often thinks that someone else will do the job, but that is just not so.
Here is the New Executive:
President -- Arno Risse Vice-President – Alfred Meister 1st Secretary – Ursula Stiefeling 2nd Secretary -- Käthe Pfeffer Treasurer – Elfriede Blasko Banquets & Reservations – Anneliese Höpp
Head Cashier – Vacant 2nd Cashier – Vacant 1st Auditor – Erwin Ladwig 2nd Auditor – Adolf Wolfsgruber 1st Events Coordinator – Ursula Hoffmann 2nd Coordinator – Vacant 1st Hall Steward – John Korenyi 2nd Hall Steward – Elizabeth Korenyi Head Chef – Vacant 2nd Chef – Vacant Public Relations – Karin Dingfeld Advertising – Erich Stangl Caretaker – VacantAssistants – Jack Schoutsen, Doris Klas, Peter Hoffmann
The K. G. Ascendia Carnival Group approached us at the meeting with the purpose of joining our club as one of our subgroups. Some of the members of that group are also members of our club. After much discussion for and against, we felt that our members should make the decision at the November General Meeting. Please think about it over the summer and be prepared to vote on it in November.
Our Club now has an official email address. It happens to be mine, and is at the end of the letter below my name. Any mail received will be sent along to the relevant club member.
A reminder that the Spring Concert takes place on April 27th. The Choir invites you and your friends to attend; doors open at 1:45 p.m. and the concert begins at 3:00. As always, coffee and cake will be available.
The Ladies’ Auxiliary wishes to give advance notice regarding their Strawberry Fest to be held June 22nd. Homemade waffles with strawberries & whipped cream will be sold. If you have attended in the past, your mouth is already watering. If you have never attended, get ready for a real treat. More info will be in the next letter. The Ladies have their next meeting on April 30th at 1:00 p.m. If you would like to join or have any questions, please call Helga Schopf at 905-664-6254.
Be sure to check out the Movie Lineup enclosed with this letter; John has worked his usual magic for our entertainment. John has mentioned that he has a greater attendance from people outside our club than from the members. Let’s rectify that and come out on a Sunday afternoon and enjoy his hard work. Don’t forget, after the June 8th movie, there won’t be any more till the fall…
Käthe Pfeffer wants to remind you about a couple of trips. A trip to New York City is on offer from August 29th to September 1st; a $200.00 deposit is required. A Bermuda Cruise is planned from September 26th to October 5th; a $400.00 deposit is required. Both trips are filling up fast; please call her right away at 905-389-1070 for details.
We also have sad news to pass along. One of our longstanding members, Henry Tischhart, has passed away. Our condolences go out to his family and friends.
And now for the Hubertuskeller Menu, served each Friday from 5:00 p.
25. April…Quark Palatschinken mit Apfelkompott 26. Mai…. Zwiebelfleisch mit Nudeln & Salat 27. Mai…. Gefüllte Kottelets mit Reis & Sala
Wie immer, auch Schnitzel & Kartoffelsalat erhältlich.
See you at the Dance,
