August 2007 Greetings, Members! Summer is almost over again! That means our Heimatabend is fast approaching on Sept 15th. Hopefully everyone enjoyed their summer and is ready to resume dancing. The Ladies’ Auxiliary thanks everyone who attended the Strawberry Fest on June 24th. A special thanks also goes to those who generously donated items for the White Elephant Table. The event was a huge success, with the best attendance ever. Thank you for your support! The Ladies’ next meeting will be on Sept 26th at 1:00 p.m. Please call Helga Schopf at 905-664-6254 should you have any questions or would like to join. Our choir will resume practicing Monday evenings at 7:30, with the first practice on September 24th. New members would be most welcome. If you would like to join, please call Fred Huber at 905-337-2991 for details. A reminder that we are still looking for a cook, even if it is only part time or occasionally. If you are interested, or know of anyone interested in this position, please call our president, Arno Risse, at 905-528-5245. We are in need of a coat-check person for dances and banquets, a paid position. Anneliese Höpp or Hermann Krottenthaler will gladly give further details at 905-634-8918. Our Movie Director, John Cekr has arranged a fantastic lineup for the fall season. The details will be included with next month’s flyer. John always manages to find the right mix of old and new to entertain us; some of his material is not available anywhere else. Be sure to set aside time to enjoy some Sunday afternoons for these movies, as well as the coffee and cake available. John can be reached at 905-385-1394 should you have any questions. The Club would like to apologize to those members and friends who attended the Friday dinner on June 29th for the lack of food. We underestimated the number of members who would attend, a difficult task at best as we do not sell tickets in advance. It was wonderful to see such a great number in attendance; unfortunately we were not properly prepared with food for so many. We are doing our best to avoid a reoccurrence. Again, our sincerest apologies. We have sad news once again. Two members have passed away during the summer. Our sympathy goes out to the families and friends of Mr. Hugo Hapke and Mrs. C. Dalan on the passing of their loved one. We were surprised and pleased to receive a monetary donation from the Estate of the Late Mrs. Aurelia Paroubek. Mrs. Paroubek was a longstanding member of the club and passed away a few years ago. Many thanks.
