January  2008

Happy New Year, Members!

I am actually writing this letter before New Years, today being December 30th.  I just returned from helping to decorate the Hall for tomorrow night along with our other Committee members and it looks beautiful as usual.  Of course, when you read this you will have seen it for yourself if you attended the New Years’ Eve Festivities.

This letter will be short and takes the place of the one normally sent after the New Years Dance.  Here is all the info necessary if you are interested in joining one of our subgroups:

Our Choir practices every Monday at 7:30 p.m. starting again on February 4th.   New members are most welcome; please call Fred Huber at 905-337-2991 for details.  It is worth mentioning that the Christmas Concert did take place on December 16th, despite the snowstorm.  The entire Choir was there to perform, and nine members turned out to hear them, all having front row seats.  All who attended should be congratulated.  I hear the parking lot was plowed out and everything went smoothly.

The Ladies’ Auxiliary will meet again on January 30th 2008, at 1:00 p.m. Please call Helga Schopf at 905-664-6254 should you have any questions or would like to join.

The Fishers and Hunters meet on the first Friday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Hubertuskeller.  If you would like to join, please call Richard Baxant at 905-643-1073 for more details.

Since the Fishers and Hunters are hosting the Jägertanz, I would like to make mention of the menu as follows:

The appetizer is smoked salmon, but not just any smoked salmon.  These fish were caught by the members of the group and home smoked..sounds delicious!

For the main course there will be Gulasch and Roast Pork with Knödel and Salad.  Sarina, who will be doing the cooking, is also making Apple Strudel for dessert.  Need I say more?

Käthe Pfeffer has again arranged a trip to Portugal, from May 11th to 25th 2008.  There is a $200.00 deposit required by the end of January.  Please call her at 905-389-1070 for details and to book.

I don’t yet know what the menu in the Hubertuskeller will be for January, so you will have to come out on Fridays from 5:00 p.m. and see for yourself.  In any case, the trip is worth it; Sarina always has something delicious for us.

Regards and keep warm,
